Invitation to the Community – Know Your Rights to Interpreters (SB 188)
Las Vegas Deaf Seniors (LVDS) invites Deaf community members, interpreter agencies, interpreters, service providers, and advocates to join us at the Cambridge Recreation Center for an important information session.
This meeting is very important for everyone to understand how to request and receive a live interpreter or VRI under Nevada law SB 188, passed in June 2025 through the work of Senator Fabian Doñate and LVDS.
We are seeing increasing confusion at hospitals, doctors’ offices, and other service providers. Some are refusing to provide interpreters or misunderstanding the law.
What will you do if this happens to you?
Fabiola Chavez Jimenez will explain:
- Your rights under SB 188
- The correct process to request interpreters
- What to do if a provider refuses
- Where and how to file a complaint
Open Question & Answer session
Please understand: LVDS cannot solve individual problems with doctors or hospitals for you. You must know your rights and the proper steps yourself.
Attention Interpreter Agencies and Interpreters:
We strongly encourage you to attend. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and better understand how SB 188 affects your work. Many agencies and interpreters have already confirmed they will attend — great!
Come learn. Come ask questions. Come be informed.
I would like to personally invite all Deaf, hard of hearing, Deaf community members, and wonderful volunteers to attend this important meeting.
Please come support, discuss, and share ideas on how we, as a Deaf community, can improve services and understanding at hospitals, doctors’ offices, and other service providers.
Fabiola Chavez Jimenez and Tony Ramirez will explain what is right, what is wrong, and how SB 188 should be properly followed.
If you attend, you will understand your rights and what is happening. If you choose not to attend, you may miss important information. LVDS cannot be responsible if you do not know your rights.
Please come and see for yourself. It will be worth your time.
Thank you,
Sean Mulholland
